The opening track from 1969’s Let It Bleed, Gimme Shelter is one of the band’s signature tracks. The song is a moody and atmospheric blues-rock piece, and one of the darkest Rolling Stones songs from this era. The song was written during the Vietnam War, and its claustrophobic vibe is a reflection of the situation. There’s something almost apocalyptic about the track, which begins with some subdued guitar riffs and soon builds to a manic and fevered climax.

English author H.G. Wells wrote in an article to a local newspaper that the Great War would be “The War That Will End Wars” as we know them. Wells argued that the Central Powers were entirely to blame for the war and that German militarism sparked everything. However, despite the phrase being used for years, it’s most often misattributed to President Woodrow Wilson. By 1918, the term morphed into “The War to End All Wars”, spreading all across Europe like a catchphrase and was synonymous with hope for a better future.

Francis Ford Coppola’s "Apocalypse Now" (1979) is widely considered to be a masterpiece. The cinematography, screenplay, and direction come together to create a dark, yet fantastic movie. Coppola’s film of 1979 is a loose adaptation of Joseph Conrad’s book titled "Heart of Darkness" and is a perfect example of how a filmmaker can transform a story from one medium to another in an incredibly skillful way. Although there are many discrepancies between "Apocalypse Now" and "Heart of Darkness", the bare bones are similar. Some of the characters’ names are different (Martin Sheen’s Captain Willard stems from Charles Marlow in Heart of Darkness), and they have completely different settings; the film is set during the Vietnam War, and the novella mainly on the Congo River in Africa.

"The Alamo" is a 1960 American epic historical war film about the 1836 Battle of the Alamo produced and directed by John Wayne and starring Wayne as Davy Crockett. By 1945, John Wayne had decided to make a movie about the 1836 Battle of the Alamo. He hired James Edward Grant as a scriptwriter, and the two began researching the battle and preparing a draft script. They hired John Ford's son Patrick (who wrote a screenplay about the battle in 1948) as a research assistant. As the script neared completion, however, Wayne and Herbert Yates, the president of Republic Pictures, clashed over the proposed $3 million budget. Wayne left Republic over the feud but was unable to take his script with him. That script later was rewritten and made into the movie "The Last Command" with Jim Bowie the character of focus.
