A foal is an equine up to one-year-old; this term is used mainly for horses but can be used for donkeys. More specific terms are colt for a male foal and filly for a female foal, and are used until the horse is three or four. After a horse is one year old, it is no longer a foal and is a "yearling". There are no special age-related terms for young horses older than yearlings. When young horses reach breeding maturity, the terms change: a filly over three (four in horse racing) is called a mare, and a colt over three is called a stallion.

A cowboy is an animal herder who tends cattle on ranches in North America, traditionally on horseback, and often performs a multitude of other ranch-related tasks. The historic American cowboy of the late 19th century arose from the vaquero traditions of northern Mexico and became a figure of special significance and legend. A subtype, called a wrangler, specifically tends the horses used to work cattle. In addition to ranch work, some cowboys work for or participate in rodeos. Cattle handlers in many other parts of the world, particularly South America and Australia, perform work similar to the cowboy.

Lard can be rendered by steaming, boiling, or dry heat. The culinary qualities of lard vary somewhat depending on the origin and processing method; if properly rendered, it may be nearly odorless and tasteless. It has a high saturated fatty acid content and no trans fat. At retail, refined lard is usually sold as paper-wrapped blocks.

Sometimes colloquially referred to as American buffalo or simply buffalo (a different clade of bovine), it is one of two extant species of bison, alongside the European bison. Its historical range, by 9000 BC, is described as the great bison belt, a tract of rich grassland that ran from Alaska to the Gulf of Mexico, east to the Atlantic Seaboard (nearly to the Atlantic tidewater in some areas) as far north as New York, south to Georgia and, according to some sources, further south to Florida, with sightings in North Carolina near Buffalo Ford on the Catawba River as late as 1750.

If you’ve decided you want to ride a horse, you’re going to need to purchase all of the necessary tack and gear. Some people use these words interchangeably, but they aren’t the same thing. Tack applies more to items you need to ride, including a saddle, bridle, bit, stirrups, reins, cinch, blanket/saddle pad, spurs, etc. Gear, on the other hand, usually refers to the items you need to keep your horse comfortable and groomed, such as brushes, feed buckets, etc. If it’s used in riding, it’s tack, while if it’s used in the stables, it’s gear.

Cowboy beans (also known as chuckwagon beans) is a bean dish popular in the southwestern United States. The dish consists of pinto beans and ground beef in a sweet and tangy sauce. Other types of meat can be used. The flavor is similar to baked beans but with a southwestern twist. Although cowboy appears in the name, the use of canned beans, ketchup, and barbecue sauce means the dish is unlike anything ranch hands would have eaten in the 19th century. Cowboy beans are served stewed or baked, depending on the recipe.

The term "colt" only describes young male horses and is not to be confused with foal, which is a horse of either sex less than one year of age. Similarly, a yearling is a horse of either sex between the ages of one and two. A young female horse is called a filly, and a mare once she is an adult animal. In horse racing, particularly for Thoroughbreds in the United Kingdom, a colt is defined as an uncastrated male from the age of two up to and including the age of four.

A heifer is any young, female, domestic bovine that has not produced offspring. At birth, a female calf is often termed a “heifer calf.” A heifer in the final weeks of pregnancy is dubbed a “springing heifer,” and a heifer that is pregnant for the first time is known as a “bred heifer.” Upon giving birth, heifers become cows. Although cows are known for their udders, heifers do not have visible mammary glands, as the organs develop in response to pregnancy. However, heifers do have visible teats. Heifers typically birth their first calves at just under two years of age, usually bearing one calf at a time.

Coyotes and badgers are known to hunt together and can even be more successful hunting prairie dogs and ground squirrels when they work in tandem. Studies have shown that this unusual relationship is beneficial for both species. The coyote can chase down prey if it runs and the badger can dig after prey if it heads underground into its burrow systems. Each partner in this unlikely duo brings a skill the other one lacks. Together they are both faster and better diggers than the burrowing rodents they hunt.

He wrote “Okie From Muskogee” (1969), his best-known recording, a novelty song that became controversial for its apparent attack on hippies. Also popular was the patriotic anthem “The Fightin’ Side of Me” (1970), though his music was rarely political and more frequently and empathetically drew on the lives of the working class and the poor and downtrodden.

Prescott, Arizona has a rich history as a frontier gold and silver mining town. It was a stereotypical "wild west" town during the latter half of the 19th century. The makeshift wooden town burned to the ground several times in the first decade of the 20th century, which finally resulted in the town being rebuilt in brick. The modern city subsists off of tourism, especially around its storied past. It is host to the self-proclaimed "World's Oldest Rodeo", running continuously since 1888. The rodeo, one of the most famous in the United States, draws some 35,000 tourists a year.

Between the age of one year old and four years old, female horses are referred to as fillies. An adult female horse is called a mare. The best way to determine the age of a female horse, and if you should call the horse a mare or filly is to take a look at the teeth of the horse. Horses do not have a full set of permanent teeth until the age of 5. If the female horse has a full set of permanent teeth, it is safe to assume the horse is over four years of age, earning the title of mare. A female horse younger than four years old will likely not have their full set of permanent teeth. If this is the case, it is safe to refer to the horse as a filly.

History tells us ranch dressing was created in 1949 by a plumber-turned-cowboy in Alaska. Steve Henson is the man behind this dressing perfection. Henson moved to California and purchased a ranch he called Hidden Valley Ranch, which made the now-famous dressing a staple. Funny enough, the recipe for ranch dressing, came from the pursuit of the perfect buttermilk dressing. The mix of buttermilk dressing, with garlic, onions, and herbs was what eventually turned into the ranch dressing we know and love today.
