The foot is an intricate body part, consisting of 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments, and 19 muscles. Scientists group the foot bones into the phalanges, tarsal bones, and metatarsal bones. The bones and joints in the feet experience wear and tear, so conditions that cause damage to the foot can directly affect its health. The tarsal bones are a group of seven bones that make up the rear section of the foot.

The term, of course, means to wish good luck. To “do well” or “have a great show” and is typically used before a stage performance, a show, or an audition. (I have never heard it used before filming a movie on any of the movies I’ve been involved with, but I guess it can be used in that sense too). But I’m sure you’re more interested in the origin of “break a leg”. Like many popular sayings and terms, the origin of “break a leg” is nebulous and disputed. The term “break a leg” was used originally, many say, to discourage evil spirits from deliberately causing one’s performance to suffer. According to this theory, wishing someone “good luck” would be invoking the “evil eye”. So “good luck” would actually cause bad luck for the actor. Thus, “break a leg”, by this logic, would be a wish for good luck.

He eventually improved on the wooden RITZ Stick, the industry standard of the day, patenting his first prototype in 1925 and an improved version in 1927. The device has both left and right heel cups and is rotated through 180 degrees to measure the second foot.

The earliest "sneakers" debuted in 1876, made by the England-based New Liverpool Rubber Company, and were immediately notable as the world's first rubber-soled shoes. They were often called "beach shoes" (referencing a place you would likely see them worn) or "plimsolls" (in connection to the Plimsoll line where a fully-laden ship's hull meets the water's surface). Elsewhere, these early sneakers and their like were called tennis shoes.

The ostrich is the fastest bird on land, as well as the fastest-running animal on two legs. The highest reliably measured running speed for ostriches is 17 m/s (61 Km/h), obtained by speedometer reading when a car was chasing an ostrich in a straight line to force it to move as fast as it could. Although there are reports of speeds of 20–27 m/s (72-97 Km/h) for ostriches, those are not confirmed.

In classical Latin hallex, allex, hallus, and allus, are used to refer to the big toe. The form hallux (genitive, hallucis) currently in use is however a blend word of the aforementioned forms. In humans, the hallux is usually longer than the second toe, but in some individuals, it may not be the longest toe. There is an inherited trait in humans, where the dominant gene causes a longer second toe ("Morton's toe" or "Greek foot") while the homozygous recessive genotype presents with the more common trait: a longer hallux. The hallux only contains two phalanx bones, the proximal and distal. The joints between each phalanx are the interphalangeal joints.
